If I had a penny for every time a guest at my chair said, "I'll never be able to make it look this good at home," to me, I'd probably be rich by now.

As clients are my walking billboard for my services; in between appointments, my guests SHOULD be making their hair look as good as I do when they sit in on the chair. Beyond styling products, what better tool as at-home grooming regimen there is than a hairdryer?

At the chair is when I take the opportunity to educate my clients and teach them how  blowdrying works and how simple it can be. On your next visit don’t be afraid to ask your barber to explain to you what products he is using and how he is blow drying your.

Now, I have put together four tips on how you can achieve the same results your stylist or barber gives you at home.

One of my favorites dryers is the Dyson Supersonic. I love how different attachment options assist in creating my ideal finishes. Even on naturally textured, curly or wavy hair can be cleaned up and polished with the Supersonic's diffuser attachment."

At the salon, I explain to my guests the importance of implementing blow drying into their daily styling regimen. I like to emphasize that the Supersonic's precise airflow is an easy guide that helps direct hair into the style you are trying to achieve.

By using the dryer for volume, shape, and direction, and product application at the end is merely detailing. It saves a lot of time during your styling regimen and is the catalyst to consistent styling. After you try it several times and see how effective and easy it is, you will become much more confident, and you can wear different styles that would be harder to wear without blow drying.

Sturdy and Lightweight

It is why I recommend to my male guest the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.  Most hairdryer motors are bulky and take too much space. The motor in the Supersonic is the size of a C battery and built like the turbine on a jet engine.

Motor

Has a digital V9 motor on average, six times faster than other hair dryers. It has a digital electrical motor that produces an intense stream of air — turning at about 110,000 RPM using Dyson's AirMultiplier technology™.

This way, it speeds up drying time considerably, literally pushing the moisture out of the hair. It means you can work more quickly and effectively. The unique motor also reduces noise. The engine is light-as-air and is part of the reason the Dyson Supersonic is only two pounds.

The digital motor lives in the handle instead of the top portion making the dryer balanced and ergonomically friendly. It has a durable magnetic smoothing nozzle, and professional styling concentrator attachment can be adjusted 360. This way, it eliminates the need to contort arm or body—a huge deal.

Too much heat is bad for hair.

The Dyson Supersonic offers Intelligent Heat Control technology. Here's how it works: The Supersonic is armed with a microprocessor, which receives data from the thermistor monitoring the exit airflow temperature 40 times per second, and transmits calculated instructions to the heating element to timely regulate the temperature.

This Intelligent Heat Control ensures that the Supersonic does not exceed 293°F or 145°C. It's when temperatures exceed 302°F/150°C that real damage can happen—it can cause hair keratin loss and can cause internal structural damage like cortex loss and medulla pores.

 Speed

With the speed of the Dyson digital motor, hair dries faster and more effectively while protecting it from extreme heat damage. As a result, your hair and scalp won't burn; hair color doesn't burn out, and the hair stays healthy and shiny. The hairdryer itself remains cool to the touch, so your fingers don't get scorch.

For at-home styling, I recommend my clients to follow these steps:

-STEP 1: Right after following shower regimen, towel dry hair.

-STEP 2: Apply product. To create volume, evenly distribute a volumizing mousse on towel-dried hair. Then use the hairdryer on high speed with a  bent brush or round brush—using a concentrator that directs airflow, like DysonSupersonic's precision Styling Concentrator—first in the direction you initially want hair to go and then in the opposite direction for strong lift. Use the cool setting to lock it all in.

-STEP 3: Blow dry, giving as much volume as possible. Because if you don't get enough volume created at the beginning of the blowdry, it will be harder to achieve it at the end of any styling. Volume can always be tone down at the end.

-STEP 4: Apply the finishing product. Avoid gels and oil-based products or pomades, as they can weight hair. You can even get more height with volumizing powder and a lightweight, like Reuzel Blue Strong Hold High Sheen Pomade

Pro-tip:

For shorter, texturized hair, the product applies best to completely blow dried hair in nearly all instances.

And if you have longer hair, apply oils or creams to dry ends in tiny amounts. This way, you will help give hair a dose of shine and volume while blow drying.

Take away:

When you take the time to achieve volume and create shape during the blowdry, it's almost effortless adding the product to finalize the style.

If you don't blow dry, you won't get the volume that some styles call for, and they definitely will forego the control of shaping it. If you put in the work of taking out the hairdryer and using it,you will save time and frustration in the long run and will see how helpful it is to achieve your desired look.

After all these tech talk on hair and gadgets, I really hope you men out there find these four techniques useful for achieving volume in your styles at home. Using a hairdryer with cutting edge technology that will deliver results to your styles between salon visits.
